The Best Definition of Prosperity,
Is The One That Makes You Glow!

This page is all about prosperity, and what the best definition of prosperity is for you! To prosper is to thrive...
to expand in positive, life-giving ways.

One person's prosperity, may be virtually meaningless to another.

The surest way to prosper,
is to know what it means for you.

Thinking about prosperity makes me smile, partly because, almost the first thing I think of, when I think of or hear the word, is an end-of-the-Depression Era scene from The Three Stooges, in which a business man is exclaiming, "Salesmen! We need salesmen!" And he glances at his assistant, and asks her, "Why can't we find any salesmen?" She responds, "Since prosperity is back, everyone's working!"

Naturally, in walk the 3 Stooges, whom Moe claims, are "Three of the best salesmen whoever 'saled'!"

In a way, that silly story I just related, is neither here nor there; it just makes me smile.

Really though, it is relevant because Western society, at least, has defined prosperity for us in certain ways, and that story speaks to that with a pretty clear definition of prosperity:
prosperity = everyone working. That view is at least partially relevant, but people are now exploring the concept in more depth, and breadth, because there's a lot more to it than money and a high employment rate.

When you think of your definition of prosperity, it should make you smile. It should make you smile because it should represent what you cherish, what has real meaning for you.

As is true with virtually everything discussed on this site, how you want to feel, and how you do feel when you think of your version of prosperity, is what gives it its power and influence in your life.

Why Does It Matter How You Define Prosperity?

How you define prosperity matters because thoughts are powerful. They contain energy, and they can easily become part of your belief system. If you come to believe that something is true, but that something doesn't resonate with your values or what your heart knows to be true, then, more than likely, you won't see it through, or your experience of it will be draining rather than fulfilling and energizing. And there's a good chance that things will just "go wrong" with your plans.

On the other hand...if you define prosperity in ways that do resonate with your values and what your heart knows to be true, you'll feel a sense of direction and it will become much easier to feel energized.

While you'll still have moments or days, when you feel afraid, down, or lacking in energy or motivation, you'll have the vision of your definition of prosperity to refer to. Each time you refer to it, it'll be a reminder to you of what you want, and give you a renewed sense of direction.

So, What's The Definition of Prosperity That Will Make You Glow?

Is There An Uncomplicated Way To Figure It Out?

Yes there is!

A Step-by-Step Plan to Define Prosperity

    1) Imagine what your perfect life would look like. Again, it's your perfect life we're talking about. It doesn't matter what other people's perfect lives might look like... unless one of them happens to be your life partner...but even then, you'll still need to begin with your perfect life, without any other consideration (could be scary, but don't worry!).

    2) Next, examine what you've written about your perfect life. What values do you see refelected? What desires?

    3) The sum of those values and desires, is your definition of prosperity.

    4) If this sounds unlikely, then spend some time thinking about this: if that's not your definition of prosperity--having everything that's represented in your description of your perfect life-- then what is and why isn't it part of your perfect life?

    5) Now, if you need to revise either your thinking about what prosperity is, or your idea of your perfect life, go ahead and do that.

    6) If you've now done some revisioning, it's time to look again, at what you've written, and ask yourself again, what values you see reflected, and what desires.

    7) And that's your best definition of prosperity!

Turn Your Definition of Prosperity, Into The Way You Live!

So, here you are, prosperity what?

Well, you've taken a major step toward prosperity by defining it for yourself.

You know: if you don't know where you're going, you'll never get there. rose

And now you do know where you're going.

The Next Steps...

  • The next thing is to write your definition of prosperity in a sentence or two because right now, it may be a collection of thoughts and ideas--your values and desires. So play around with it until you have a 1 or 2-sentence definiton that you can easily remember.
  • Now you'll need to figure out the difference between where you are now, and where you want to be-- your definition of prosperity and your perfect life.

  • Read through your description of your perfect life. Do you have it now?

  • If you have some but not all of it, write down what you do have in one column,

  • and what you don't yet have, in another colummn. Be specific and detailed.

  • If you don't have any of it, then write down everything that you don't yet have. Again, be specific and detailed.

If the discrepancies between where you are now and what you want seem enormous, don't be discouraged! You've already made important strides forward. You've already narrowed the gap!

You're Creating A Valuable Source of Information For Your Journey

Knowing what you want, what you don't yet have, and what obstacles seem to stand in the way, is invaluable in creating what you most want!

Chances are you're no longer stuck with a vague sense of emptiness, or with knowing what you want, but feeling that it's not legitimate...and if you do feel any of that, those feelings should continue to subside and disappear as you work on this.

you're already making progress toward prosperity.

Depending on what your definition of prosperity is, and where you are now, it might take time, even a good deal of time to get there. Keep the faith! You can make it happen.

And, you might find yourself making adjustments along the way,
possibly even a complete revision of your definition.
